Disposable containers like paper cups and paper boxes are everywhere in our daily lives. However, it’s important to note that to achieve waterproofing, these containers typically have a plastic lining inside, which means they cannot be directly recycled with regular paper.

Recycling companies must use special chemicals to separate the paper from the plastic, a complex process that limits recycling effectiveness worldwide.

In response, Taiwanese manufacturers have introduced waterproof paper pulp developed by leading European and American companies. This innovation uses physical principles to achieve 100% waterproofing without plastic lining. These new cups are fully decomposable and recyclable, representing the future trend in eco-friendly, sustainable packaging. (Also known as no-laminate paper cups or water-laminate paper cups.)

With growing environmental awareness, the global movement to reduce plastic use has become a major trend. Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration has taken the lead by implementing policies to limit the use of single-use plastic straws.

However, everyday items like paper cups, paper bowls, and takeout boxes are often coated with a PE (polyethylene) lining to make them waterproof. Because of this plastic layer, these containers cannot be recycled as regular paper.

Recycling these paper containers requires special chemical treatments to separate the paper from the plastic. Due to the complexity of this process, the overall recycling efficiency for these materials remains low worldwide.
